X-Band Dual-Polarization Microstrip Patch Subarray Antenna for Satellite Synthetic-Aperture Radar (SAR) Applications

In this study, a high-performance, dual linearly polarized patch array antenna is presented for satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAR) applications. The features an aperture-fed stacked as the radiation element and stripline feeding network. A high-performance low-loss dielectric substrate RF-35 by Taconic, honeycomb used. used to maximize impedance bandwidth decrease insertion loss of antenna. proposed offers exceptional isolation between antenna’s ports in excess 55 dB owing its via stitching technique utilized suppress parallel-plate mode excited discontinuities stripline. designed possess wide bandwidth. prototype size 2×4 elements, which operates X-band, fabricated. Its performance are experimentally verified, results presented. exhibits 15.7 peak gain more than 40 cross-polarization discrimination. addition, 19.4 % at −10 return (RL) level obtained.
